Fastest ever at the Ace,

Many thanks for the info on the jukebox, i thought it was a Seeburg, but it was a lot of years ago,Many wild things happened down there so i wouldnt be supprised about the hitching up of the juke to a truck. Now what was the fastest thing ever to visit the Ace? not a Norton or a Triumph, but Donald Campbells Bluebird, world land speed record breaking car, one night in the early 60s, on the back of a Pickfords transporter, the driver and his mate couldnt resist stopping for a cuppa, only a few of us there that night, anyone else remember it. Regards Colin Grant.

ACE JUKEBOX

Hi again Colin. Among my post Christmas reading is another book on the Ace called "The Ace Café, Then and Now" edited by Winston Ramsey. In this book there is a reference to an incident in the early 60's when the jukebox was hitched up to a truck on the park with a rope and towed out of the café by the unsuspecting driver when he set off. That particular 'box is recalled by Barry "Noddy" Cheese, a regular at the Café and instigator of the prank, as being a Seeburg AY with 160 selections, manufactured in 1961. Wonder how well it played after it's excursion?

ACE JUKEBOX

Colin. There's a wonderful two page picture in Mick Duckworth's excellent book "Ace Times". It's a picture of the inside of the Ace in the mid 60's taken by John "Hoppy" Hopkins and it shows a Seeburg jukebox located by the main entrance. The caption does state however that other makes were installed over the years, including the BAL AMi.
